Wood and snow

Well that batch of wood went fast! While the winter is bringing us plenty of snow, we have been busy building standing desks for Boulder and people in Laramie. Planing the wood is like unwrapping Christmas presents, walnut may look good when you buy it, but the planer exposes the pallet of warm browns, rusts, reds, blues and grays hidden inside. Each run through the planer shows a bit more of the wood’s character. That’s why I like the ‘finished side’ of the project. We still have spalted maple and some live edge cherry to build with but I suspect a trip the St. Joe Missouri is in our cards come spring. Right now everything that comes into shop is hauled over the snow so we are trying to work with what we have.
